Project Overview
The proposals include the demolition of the existing dilapidated structure that offers no aesthetic appeal to the beautiful rural area. In replacement of this demolished structure, we proposed to replace it with a modern and sustainable dwelling that will sit partially over the footprint of the existing dwelling. Siting the dwelling more proportionately to the plot and making the main entrance center of the existing access. This has created a dramatic appearance when entering the site.
There have been a number of designs considered for this site but the one that we feel is most appropriate given the rural setting is that of a traditionally constructed dwelling with a cavity wall that would be finished with appropriately colored render, stone detailing, and slate-colored roof tiles. We have adopted a traditional style of architecture with a modern twist for this property and this is reflected in the symmetrical façade, both front, and rear. The dwelling with be arranged over two floors and has been sensitively designed to ensure that the character of the dwelling does not have a negative or overbearing impact on the rural location of this site.
This project has been a particularly interesting project to work on finding that part of the existing building dated back to the 17th century. A full building record has been commissioned so this can be fully documented with the English heritage and archaeology department. It was agreed the existing building is beyond practical repair, due to its loss of structural integrity and an inability to repair it whilst it remains standing.
The new proposal will fully develop the site into 21st-century sustainable living. Four bedrooms were proposed, one being the master with walk-in wardrobes and ensuite. A large open-plan kitchen, dining, and snug area have been located to the rear of the property looking out to the beautiful woodland out to the rear of the site.
The landscaping will be fully landscaped with feature ponds and natural stone bourders within the existing woodland area.
